Appliqué Seam
This seam is especially for patterned fabric such as lace, and motifs.
1. Prepare your pieces by planning which decorative areas you want to include in this seam. Cut around the patterns you want to keep leaving a seam allowance and clip to the basted seam line.
2. Fold under the seam allowance of the decorative fabric and place over the under piece. Slip-baste together.
3. Once you are happy they are positioned correctly, machine stitch the seam line or secure using fell stitch by hand.
4. Complete the seam by trimming the underfabric to match the decorative fabric seam allowance. Use a finish such as overcasting or zig zag stitch to secure the seam allowance and avoid fraying.
